Back in Business

Okay, I've been slack of late! I haven't been keeping the blog going as well as I would like, however work has simply been getting in the way of leisure time! Speaking of 'leisure' as you will see in the photos below, our bricks (which happen to be called 'Leisure') have arrived and like so many other things to do with this house, there are so many of them!

Since the last post, we have had the house wrap (Blue Paper) put on, we have had the plaster board arrive and be attached (cornices tomorrow I believe). We have also had our French Doors removed and the concrete cut to allow for the rebate into the slab so the doors are flush with the floor and the door refitted. The solar panels have been placed and the solar hot water panels were also placed.

From my understanding, two carpenters arrive tomorrow (one inside, one out) to work on cabinetry and the 3/4 verandah around the front. The board for raised timber platform in the media room is here as is (what I believe is) the timber to start the verandah.

The bricks as you can see have also arrived. The colour looks great and the light fleck in the bricks works well with the roof - which is something we have been worried about with the roof since it has been finished. As you'll see in the photos, 1 pallet of bricks made it down beside the house, the others are all stacked high. A bobcat is coming in on Friday to cart them down - apparently the driveway is continuing cause havoc for all that dare to descend! The first load made it down fine, however the 'tractor' could get back up the hill and required a tow.

The Pace Slows a Little!

After what had been a very quick few weeks up to the final framing stage, things just slowed down for a while. Which is good because no sooner had we cleared the cheque for the base stage, we were being asked to pay for the framing stage.

In a move that surprised us, we next saw the guttering going up - a process that took nearly a week to get right. Whilst I don't have any photos to show just of the guttering (as exciting as it sounds) we did go down and look at the colours we had chosen (Paperbark for the gutters and Surfmist for the the fascia) we just didn't take any photos.

Next was the battening (which strangely I felt should have been part of the framing stage) started. This also took nearly a week and it was hard to see what they had actually done on a daily basis.

This Monday saw the arrival of our sarking (insulation) and also our steel roof. In the photos below you can see that Monday was nearly half the roof done. Tuesday saw nearly the entire done. Wednesday - not really sure, we have some Whirly Birds now, but the roof is still not finished and with this massive rain event coming Thursday evening, I sure hope they finish it before then.

Also arriving Tuesday were our doors and windows - very exciting!

Well the following day saw next to no action on the house. Late afternoon saw a concrete truck arrive to fill in a spot where a down pipe had been cut during the pier drillings.

Friday however saw them working on the roof. It start with the biggest off-the-back-of-a-truck-cranes we have ever seen. So big, that when Bethany saw it she straight out said, "They're just showing how big a crane they could bring on to the block". I don't think she was that far wrong, although from the driveway to the back of the house was quite a way.

Getting home from work, I saw the men still hard at it, right up until 7pm! A very big day, especially seeing we hit well over 30 degrees on the day. It was so late when they finished I couldn't go down and have a look.

The next morning I took these shots about 5:30am, lucky for me as the men arrived bang on 6:00am for another day of work up until 3pm. I think that the roof is finished now. I guess it is now time for the sarking and then colorbond roof to go on.
